We've all been there – eagerly anticipating your lunch break, only to find that your culinary creation has mysteriously vanished from the office fridge. Dealing with a lunch thief can be frustrating, watching someone eating your lunch like a submissive cuck. So how do you avoid that situation? Below are some tips to try your best to resolve the situation before going nuclear:
Label Your Lunch: Avoid confusion and make it clear that your lunch is off-limits by labeling it with your name. A simple note or sticker can go a long way in deterring potential lunch bandits.
Speak Calmly: If you suspect a specific colleague is behind the lunchtime heist, approach them calmly and privately. Share your concerns without accusations, giving them the opportunity to explain or rectify the situation.
Act Like a Karen: If the issue persists, consider sending a friendly office-wide message addressing the matter. Politely remind everyone to respect personal belongings in the communal fridge, maintaining a positive tone to encourage cooperation.
If that doesn't work, it's time to put on the war paint and do some shady revenge:
Start Eating Spicy Food: Only eat spicy food... like really spicy. When the lunch bandit takes your lunch, you will be able to identify who they are, but don't call them out at this point. You don't want them to be embarrassed, you want the entire office to hate them.
If You Suffer, Everyone Does: Destroy everyone's lunches. turn lunch bags into smash burgers or throw them away completely. There will be a witch hunt... now is the time to turn the crowd against your offender, start whispering their name in the hallways so people know who messes with lunches.
Become the Problem: Take it a step further... Now that the perp has been identified and the office universally hates them, most likely their supervisor will have a discussion to correct the problem. Take on the role of lunch bandit and continue their disrespectful behavior, the office will assume the original offender is up to their antics again and their time will be short lived.
Good luck, and remember... don't make yourself a victim, become the problem.
